A once in a lifetime event took place on Saturday 27th September in the forests surrounding Perth in Scotland. Never has a rally event attracted so many champions of the rallying world, World champions, British champions, American champions, they all wanted to be in Scotland to celebrate the life of 1996 World Rally Champion, Colin McRae, and there to do battle with them was Draperstown driver Martin McCormack.
Saturday morning dawned bright as the crews headed to the 1st of five stages that made up the event. Martin started quickly but towards the end of the stage a tightening corner saw the Outdoor Services Escort climb a bank that damaged the steering and finishing the stage well off the pace of the leaders.
Quick repairs before stage two ensured the crew were able to get into the thick of things again, and although the steering was not correct over stages two and three, Martin and Liam progressed up the leader board as they entered service to rectify the damaged caused with their stage one off.
With repairs affected to the front of the car, and new Kumho tyres fitted, Martin and Liam set off to tackle the last two stages off the event.
Fast times on stages four and five saw the elated crew cross the finish ramp in Perth City centre, 9th overall, 3rd 2 wheel drive car and 2nd historic car.
Martin and Liam would like to thank Outdoor Services, PPS Salvage Auctions, TFR Refrigeration, Millers Oils, John Moynihan Rallying, Carella, the Fisher Foundation, Kumho Tyres and all his other sponsors who made the event possible. www.martymccormack.com |
