Marty McCormack has set his sights on a strong finish in this weekends Kenotek Ypres Rally in Belgium. Marty will pair up with co-pilot James O Reilly, both hoping to put the disappointment of the Circuit of Ireland behind them.
Speaking after a test in the Tiger Risk Skoda Fabia S2000 Marty said “I am really excited and relishing the challenge of Ypres. It’s an event with such history and an incredibly strong entry this year. It is going to be difficult but we had a very good test in the car during the week. The Skoda Fabia S2000 has won the rally for the past five years so we know it is a good platform and suits the smooth roads in Belgium. I will be trying my hardest to mix it at the top of the leaderboard!
Although Marty has competed on this event once before, this will be his first attempt in a four wheel drive rally car. The rally is based in the beautiful, historic town of Ypres but Marty and James wont have time to take in the sights. The organisers have laid out a very challenging route consisting of seventeen stages over two days.
“We were very disappointed with our finish in the Circuit of Ireland Rally. We had issues with brakes at the very start of the event, which lead us to go off the road and pick up a puncture. Any hope of a good result was over after that, which was really gutting. We fought our way back to twelfth overall and showed good pace towards the end of the event. We now have to focus fully on Ypres and get a good result
